i think one of everyone’s favorite things about the christmas season is the music. living in nashville, i love good music, but i especially love independent artists. i’ve decided that for the rest of advent, i’ll feature an advent- or christmas-theme song written by an independent artist that i love. to kick us off this week, this is one of my very favorite advent songs. i feel like it encompasses my understanding of the waiting, longing, and hope that the israelites were feeling as they waited for a Savior. the song is written by a wonderful singer/songwriter named alli rogers (who happens to have just had a new baby last night!) you all should check her out- her whole christmas album is fabulous (and you can get it here: https://missinginkshop.com/allirogers/store/featured/silent-stars). she also has a sampler of her music that you can get for free here. this song is called we’ve been waiting.

we’ve been waiting, waiting
savior, waiting for you
we’ve been hoping, hoping
savior, hoping it’s true
with the world like it is
with our hearts so cold
we’ve been counting down to the thaw
have our yearnings gone amiss
or could we be so bold
to believe there is peace after all

we’ve been waiting, waiting
savior, waiting for you
we’ve been hoping, hoping
savior, hoping it’s true

nothing can save us now
but something so strong
as love
nothing can save us now
but something so strong
as love

oh come oh come Emmanuel
and ransom captive Israel
who mourns in lonely exile here
until the Son of God appear
rejoice, rejoice
Emmanuel shall come to thee, oh Israel

cause nothing can save us now
but something so strong as love, as love
nothing can save us now
but something so strong, as love
nothing can save us now
but something, something so strong, as love
